About FlameRanked

A Leaderboard, Not a Catalogue.

We blind-taste, lab-test, and ruthlessly rank every hot sauce so you don't have to. No hype. No heat-adjacent adjectives. Just numbers.

Why We Built This

Shopping for hot sauce online is broken. Labels say "extra hot" when they mean medium. Brands use the same ghost pepper blend under 12 different names. And heat is described in adjectives — fiery, scorching, face-melting — instead of actual numbers.

We got tired of opening disappointing bottles. So we built the thing we wished existed: a shop where every product has earned its rank through blind tasting and real lab testing. If a sauce doesn't make our cut, it doesn't make our shelf.

The Ranking System

Every sauce is evaluated on a 30-point scale across three dimensions.

Heat Accuracy (0–10)

We cross-reference the label's claimed SHU against third-party lab tests. Exaggerated heat claims cost points. Accurate or humble labeling earns them.

Flavor Complexity (0–10)

Blind-tasted neat, on a neutral cracker, and in a dish. Judged on balance between heat, acid, sweetness, and depth. One-note sauces don't rank well here.

Everyday Usability (0–10)

Would we actually reach for this bottle again? Pours well, works across food types, and delivers consistent heat every time. The sauce you finish, not the one you display.

The Tasting Panel

If I wouldn't put it on my menu, it doesn't belong on the shelf.

The chemistry of heat is fascinating. Most brands don't understand what they're selling.

I've grown every pepper on that Scoville scale. I can smell a fake claim from across the room.

I'm the contrarian. If a sauce can win me over, it can win anyone over.

What We Never Do

Accept paid placements

No brand pays to be listed. Rankings are earned.

Stock white-label sauces

Every product must have a named maker with a traceable origin.

Use 'heat' as a marketing word

Hot, fiery, inferno — meaningless. We use SHU.

Hide our methodology

Our full scoring rubric is available to any maker who asks.

Carry the same sauce twice

If a new formula replaces an old one, we re-test and re-rank.

Round up Scoville numbers

208,000 SHU is 208,000. Not 'over 200k.'

Every bottle earned its rank.
